If someone had to spend a day in your life or walk a mile in your shoes what would they experience? Be sure to address certain questions. What would your routine be? What are your daily responsibilities? Does your day begin long before the school day? For instance, do you take care of animals? Do you have to help get little brothers or sisters ready for school? Does the real work for you begin at the end of the school day? Do you work after school? What are your feelings about yourself? What are your feelings about others? What are your insecurities, hopes, dreams, and/or fears? What is your role within your family? What role do you play at school? Are you the athlete? Are you the good student? The rebel? Now think about the definition of a metaphor. A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things without using like or as. If a shoe could be a metaphor for your life, if someone had to walk a mile in your shoes, what kind of shoes would they need to make the journey? Would they wear strappy sandals, tennis shoes, work boots or flip-flops? What does your shoe choice reflect about the difficulty of your daily life and/or your attitude about life? If you choose flip-flops, this choice could reflect your carefree nature and your comfort level. You might choose high heels to reflect standing tall and dressing for success. You might choose tennis shoes to get you places in a hurry and to endure daily challenges. You must write a 1 page typed journal and create an artistic representation of your shoe choice. Your shoe might be one or three-dimensional. Have you written thoughtfully about a day in your life? Does your writing have a clear voice? Be sure to remember the six traits of good writing. Be sure to check your journal carefully for grammatical and spelling errors. Did you use varied sentence structure and higher-level vocabulary? Did you work on combining sentences? Did you use active verbs? Did you use vivid details?
