NEXRAD Level II Radar Data now available through the ERC
The Education and Research Consortium (ERC) has partnered with the National Weather Service and the National Climatic Data Center to distribute and archive NOAA's WSR-88D Level II radar data.
High resolution real-time radar data from all NEXRAD
radars that are made available by the National Weather
Service are received over Internet2 at the state-of-the-art
ERC MetaPop located in its mission-critical facility
in Asheville, NC.
The ERC retransmits data to customers as well as to education and research institutions in near real-time, dramatically increasing the availability and widespread use Level II radar data.
In addition to mission critical transmission of real-time data, the ERC has partnered with private sector companies in order to provide value-added
products from the Level II data stream. Historical radar data and value-added products are also available.
The ERC offers outstanding facilities for highly reliable and cost effective broadband communications, high performance computing, and co-location services in a redundant environment that is secure from natural disasters.
